This is a personal record of my life with my cat, Mickey, who lives with a chronic illness.

Mickey's in a playful mood! Feeling better today?

A Change in Mickey’s Hospital

Recently, we made the decision to transfer Mickey’s regular veterinary care to a new hospital. The two biggest reasons were better accessibility and the fact that the new hospital specializes in cats only.

Our previous hospital required about 20 minutes of travel by bus and on foot. For Mickey, that bus ride was a significant burden. The new hospital is within walking distance, and we can take our time with short walks and rest breaks along the way.

Remembering Our Previous Vet

The previous vet was a truly wonderful person who always cared deeply for Mickey.
At the same time, the waiting room included dogs and other animals, and we sometimes wondered if that environment might feel a little stressful for Mickey.

We expressed our heartfelt gratitude to the previous vet when we formally said goodbye — truly, we could not have come this far without their support.

A Warm Welcome at the New Cat-Only Hospital

The new hospital feels different right from the waiting room. Inside, cats who are being cared for roam freely, and the space feels lively yet gentle.
On one visit, another cat even hopped onto someone’s lap and curiously peeked into Mickey’s carrier — a moment that made us smile.

New Perspectives from Two Vets

Talking with both the previous and the new vet helped us realize that every veterinarian has a slightly different approach, even when they’re thinking deeply about a cat’s comfort.

💧 Subcutaneous Fluids (Hydration)

  • Previous Vet’s Approach: Give 500 ml once a week to reduce the number of needle sticks.
  • New Vet’s Approach: Give smaller amounts about three times a week to lessen Mickey’s daily burden.

Both approaches are rooted in care — they simply differ in how they balance frequency and the amount per treatment.

🍽 Food Philosophy

For diet guidance:

  • Previous Vet: Encouraged therapeutic low-phosphorus food first.
  • New Vet: Emphasized that the most important thing is that Mickey eats something, and then gradually work toward therapeutic diets.

For us, hearing that “eating anything at all is the priority right now” was truly a relief. It felt like a gentle and caring invitation rather than pressure.

Looking Ahead With Hope

Thanks to the efforts of Mickey’s previous vet, Mickey is now living each day with more calm and stability than before.
And now, at this new hospital — with its cat-friendly energy and thoughtful veterinary care — we are ready to continue giving Mickey the support he needs. Let’s keep trying together!
